9 Paths to Abundant Gift Giving
by Julie Jordan Scott
1. Give gifts directly
from your heart to the receiver. Don't give anything out of feeling
afraid if you don't. "X" will happen (such as they might not
like you or they will get mad at you or you won't measure up). Instead,
give as your heart leads you: out of a love centered space that
celebrates your relationship.
2. Give handmade gifts. Perhaps you know how to make something with
your own hands, or maybe you know someone who is able to craft one of a
kind gifts. These are extra special to give due especially to their
uniqueness. On the other hand, if you are not crafty and you do not know
any crafty people move along and choose another technique. You are
special in your own way!
3. Give gifts that will create another gift. One idea I had for this
year is to give memory jars with a simple notebook What is a memory jar?
It is a simply jar filled with papers with questions on them. The
notebook is for the recipient to answer the questions. By completing
this gift, the receiver will have written quite a bit of his/her oral
tradition which will then be bounteous for many many years to come.
Questions could be about family traditions, romances, funny episodes,
careers, siblings, places they have visited, etc. Be creative. Celebrate
the outcome.
4. Give corporately. Grab your group and give something really
extravagant for a member you want to especially honor this year.
Recently at my church, the pastor was given a communal gift of $5,555.55
for his fifth anniversary there. It was completely unexpected and we ALL
felt great for giving it!
5. Give the gift of experiences. Perhaps your recipient has always
wanted to visit someplace special or take this class or learn this
specific hobby or...fill in the blank. The possibilities are limitless
and will create memories beyond opening a package.
6. Give the gift of synergy. Offer your specialness to another by
partnering in a project or vision with the other person. Contrary to
popular belief, 1 + 1 does not always equal 2. In creative relationships
of the artistic sort (in business, in play, in artistry) synergy brings
much more than 1+1 = 2. If you don't know what this means, partner with
a person you would like to emulate and watch what happens.
7. Give family heirlooms to members of your extended family and/or
special friends. It is like giving a piece of your ancestry to another.
My adopted daughter decided on a visit to Flagstaff, Arizona that her
ancestors included a historic family whose home we visited. We celebrate
that now, and with our tongues in cheek include this family in our
celebrations.
8. Give time. For some people, the most valuable gift will be simply
spending focused 1-on-1 time together. With today's busy calendars and
schedules, this may be the most valuable gift of all. See what happens
when you make this suggestion to your close friends and family members.
You will see from their responses if this is one way for your hearts to
become intertwined. For some, it will be incredibly valuable and giving.
To others, stick with the other possibilities on the list.
9. Give the gift of your honest, deep felt belief. Look deeply Into
the recipient's spirit and affirm to him/her that you firmly believe in
their greatness. That you believe in his dreams. That what she pursues
IS possible. That you value what their vision of the future holds. If
you can not be integrity with this belief, check in and see if you can
find the block. Then, commit to clearing it so you CAN fully and
completely give this life changing gift.
To create a holiday season and a year that is unlike any other, give
gifts that inspired by this list. You will be grateful you did.
